Amendments to the Defence Housing Australia Act 1987 allow Defence Housing Australia (DHA) to provide services to a wider range of people.
The amendments improve support for those who assist and work alongside the Australian Defence Force (ADF), including foreign government and defence personnel, and philanthropic organisations assisting the ADF.
These changes are an important step in supporting the Australian Government's current and future requirements, including in meeting its commitments under the AUKUS agreement.
DHA's Managing Director Andrew Jaggers said:
"DHA has valuable experience and insight into the housing needs of serving members, enabling effective support for military personnel and their families, including foreign visiting military personnel.
"DHA will meet the additional housing needs of Australian and foreign personnel by increasing its property portfolio through a range of housing initiatives, including through additional property leasing, acquisitions and construction."
