The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan(PCUz), in partnership with the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organised a five-day training titled "Digital Forensics: Challenges and Opportunities" for the period from 23 to 27 October, 2023. The training course was aimed at enhancing the capacity of law enforcement agencies to detect and investigate cybercrimesby further promoting international co-operation, co-ordination and information sharing among respective structures.
This interactive training gathered 24 (one woman and 23 men) practitioners from the cybersecurity units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Prosecutor's Office and State Security Service, with the objective of advancingtheir specific knowledge of investigative methods, particularly for crimes committed online, such as on the Dark web. The training also discussed the use of Open-Source Intelligence Training (OSINT), aimed at preventing child sexual exploitation and abuse. Special attention was drawn to international practices in the investigation of child abuse and child pornography on the Internet.
In addition, international experts shared good practices in researching and extracting data from mobile devices, collecting and analyzingdata on cryptocurrency transactions used for criminal purposes and forensic data analysis DFAS (Digital Field Forensics Analysis System), as well as data collection and mechanisms for international co-operation.
This training course was organized within the two PCUz projects "Promoting Rule of Law, Human Rights and Media Development" and "Development of national capacities to counter Cyber/ICT threats".
