Disaster assistance extended following severe weather and flooding in NSW 24 December

Disaster assistance is now available in five additional local government areas following severe storms and flooding from Tuesday 9 November 2021, which continues to impact areas of New South Wales.

The additional LGAs are Bogan, Cootamundra-Gundagai, Greater Hume, Inverell and the Unincorporated Area of NSW.

Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience, Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie said severe weather from early November has continued to impact a number of communities.

"We will continue to work with Councils and the NSW Government to identify communities who require support to recover from this event," Minister McKenzie said.

"We stand together across all levels of government to provide assistance and support to severely impacted local communities, in the hope that they can rebuild and reconnect."

New South Wales Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience Steph Cooke said that communities across NSW continued to undertake damage assessments as flood waters recede.

"In some areas, communities and councils are only now starting to see the full impact of this event," Minister Cooke said.

These areas now included are in addition to the initial declaration for the local government areas of Bathurst, Bega Valley, Blayney, Blue Mountains, Bourke, Brewarrina, Broken Hill, Cabonne, Cobar, Coonamble, Cowra, Dubbo, Eurobodalla, Forbes, Gilgandra, Glen Innes Severn, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Gunnedah, Gwydir, Kyogle, Lachlan, Lithgow, Liverpool Plains, Lockhart, Mid-Western, Moree Plains, Muswellbrook, Narrabri, Narromine, Oberon, Parkes, Port Macquarie-Hastings, Queanbeyan-Palerang, Richmond Valley, Shoalhaven, Singleton, Snowy Monaro, Snowy Valleys, Tamworth, Tenterfield, Upper Hunter, Walcha, Walgett, Warren, Warrumbungle, Weddin and Wentworth.

Assistance available under the DRFA may include:

  • Help for eligible people whose homes or belongings have been damaged (eligibility criteria apply)
  • Support for affected local councils to help with the costs of cleaning up and restoring damaged essential public assets
  • Concessional interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations, and
  • Freight subsidies for primary producers.
