Hornsby Shire Council is excited to announce the return of its popular Second Hand Hornsby Market on Sunday 14 September 2025 at Coronation StrEat, aimed at encouraging the local reuse economy.
The Second Hand Hornsby Market provide residents with an opportunity to declutter some of their pre-loved items in an environmentally conscious manner, offering others the opportunity to discover thrifty treasures.
The market is part of Council's Second Hand Hornsby initiative, which also includes an innovative service on Council's website allowing residents to advertise their garage sales, with advice on making them a success.
Council is encouraging locals to reduce the number of items sent to landfill by instead opting to give their unwanted items a new lease on life. Some of the items that are expected to be on offer at the Second Hand Hornsby Market include clothing, toys, books, sporting equipment and household items.
Residents were quick to book out the 30 stalls, and now Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell is looking forward to seeing the community come together to support sustainable living.
"The Second Hand Hornsby Market encourages us to rethink how we consume and value everyday items. It's a wonderful chance for the community to make mindful choices, support sustainability, and uncover some unique bargains along the way," said Mayor Waddell.
The Second Hand Hornsby Markets will run on the second Sunday of September and November 2025 from 9am-1pm in the car park on Coronation Street and in the Coronation StrEat space.
Second Hand Hornsby aligns with Council's Waste Matters Strategy and is part of several initiatives, including Bicycle Repair and Clothes Swap events, to assist Council to maximise resource recovery and stimulate the reuse economy. There will be a Bicycle Check and Tune running on the day of the market, where experienced mechanics will inspect tyres, gears and brakes and either fix any issues or provide advice on repairs.
