The event, held from 9am–3pm, is the University's largest cross-campus event of the year and will see around 5,000 people visiting the University's Callaghan and City locations to explore everything the university has to offer.

From live music and giveaways to interactive demonstrations, campus tours, and hands-on activities, there's something for everyone, said the University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky AO.

"Whether you're a future student, a curious local, or just keen to soak up the atmosphere, everyone is welcome. If you're thinking about studying, Open Day is the best place to start," said Professor Zelinsky.

"For 60 years the University of Newcastle has been an education pillar in our community, helping thousands to further their careers, and we look forward to showing the next generation of students what's possible when you study at university."

Students finishing Year 12 can get help to apply for free through the Early Entry program on the day, ahead of the first-round deadline on 24 September.

Tiarna Baer from Toronto High School is planning to attend Open Day with her mum to learn more about a future in occupational therapy.

"I chose the University of Newcastle because it's my local university, so I don't need to move away. The University also has an amazing reputation nationwide, and so many pathways," Tiarna said.

"I'm really excited for Open Day to learn more about studying the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy and look forward to one day working with children to make a difference in their everyday lives. I was also able to apply for my second preference, the Bachelor of Psychological Science through Early Entry and having that option has been really helpful for my stress levels during my final exams."

Open Day is not just for high school students – around half of the university's domestic undergraduate students don't come directly from high school.

For those looking to return to study after time in the workforce or exploring new career paths, it's the perfect opportunity to discover the wide range of study and pathway options available to all, no matter background or academic history.

All visitors are encouraged to register and plan ahead to make the most of the full schedule of events.

A free shuttle bus will run every half hour between 8:30am-4pm to connect the Callaghan and Newcastle City campuses.

For those looking to study on the Central Coast, Open Day will be on 30th August across the Ourimbah and Gosford campuses from 10am-2pm.
