Disqualified driver charged over pursuit at Illawarra

A disqualified driver has been charged with traffic offences following a pursuit in the Illawarra yesterday.

About 1.10pm (Wednesday 14 July 2021), police patrolling the Princes Motorway, Berkeley, attempted to stop a vehicle after it was detected speeding.

The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, the car stopped further down the Princes Motorway in West Wollongong, where officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command spoke with the 45-year-old driver.

Checks revealed his license had expired in 2017, and he was disqualified from driving until September this year.

He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit (Skye's Law), drive whilst disqualified, exceed speed over 45km/h, and exceed speed over 20km/h.

The Lake Illawarra man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 15 July 2021).
