Women from culturally diverse backgrounds can access vital information about domestic, family and sexual violence in their native language with a suite of four fact sheets now translated in 25 languages.
Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said the State Government remains committed to ensuring at-risk South Australians are safe from violence and able to get support when they need it.
"Almost a quarter of South Australian residents were born overseas and some 270,000 people in our state speak a language other than English at home," said Minister Lensink.
"It is critical that this large and diverse segment of our community can readily access the domestic violence help they need in a format that is easy to understand.
"The translated fact sheets explain what everyone in our community can do to promote gender equality and respect, as well as how to get help if you need it.
"The Marshall Liberal Government is serious about DV prevention and providing support for at-risk South Australians and that's why we've invested record funding towards new measures to support women and children across the state."
Assistant Minister for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Carolyn Power urged women to seek help if they need it.
"These resources will empower more South Australians with practical information and tools to recognise abuse in its many forms and take steps to stay safe," said Mrs Power.
"They can also use the information to help friends, family members and co-workers – sharing one of these fact sheets could start a life-saving conversation."
The four fact sheets cover:
- Recognising Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence - describes the various types of abuse, offers examples of abusive behaviour and explains how to recognise if someone is experiencing abuse.
- What can I do to help someone experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence? - outlines how to broach the subject of domestic, family and sexual violence if you recognise that someone is at-risk, and the steps you can take to help.
- Promoting Gender Equality and Respect (1) - summarises Australia's stance on gender equality and women's rights, lists some of the social and cultural factors that can contribute to abuse and explains how to challenge them.
- Promoting Gender Equality and Respect (2) - suggests actions to promote gender equality and provides a comprehensive list of online support resources.

The $38,000 investment to produce the 100 translated documents was funded under the Federal Government's National Partnership on COVID-19 Domestic and Family Violence Responses.
