Linda Vidler Park at Suffolk Park is a much-loved community asset with the 4.5-hectare site being the largest recreation area in the neighbourhood.

The Draft Masterplan is designed as a long-term vision for the park with the aim of catering for all members of the community, regardless of age, and providing a place where they can relax, exercise, meet with friends and enjoy some fresh air.

The Draft Masterplan has been designed in consultation with key stakeholders in the community including the Arakwal Corporation, the Suffolk Park Progress Association, Suffolk Park Football Association and the Suffolk Park Community Gardens.

Now it's time for the broader community to check out the plan and vision for the park and provide some feedback.

"This Masterplan is very important because when it is finalised it provides a very clear blueprint for what the park will look like in the future," Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said.

"There is no doubt we will be building new facilities in the future as well as refurbishing some of the existing facilities, such as the skatepark, and the Masterplan is necessary when we are seeking grant funding for these projects," Mr Holloway said.

Linda Vidler Park is already home to a football field, tennis courts, skatepark, bocce green, community garden, pump track and playgrounds.

The draft masterplan provides for:

  • Shelters, seating and water fountains
  • Potential extension of football clubhouse facilities
  • Exercise station
  • Nature play area
  • Area for indigenous food planting
  • Improved access, circulation and connectivity including paths through nearby bush
  • Cultural and environmental interpretation
  • Potential use for community events including markets.

People can provide feedback on the Draft Linda Vidler Park Masterplan at Your Say Byron Shire. The closing date for submissions is 5 July 2021.
