Drink driver nabbed on Monash Freeway

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers intercepted an alleged drunk driver at more than three times the alcohol limit in Mulgrave this morning.

Officers were patrolling the inbound lanes of the Monash Freeway about 1.30am when they detected a vehicle allegedly travelling at 98km/hr through an 80km/hr zone.

A check on the Mercedes hatchback's registration indicated that it had expired.

The car was intercepted shortly before the Springvale Road off-ramp.

The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Docklands man, returned an alleged positive evidentiary breath test of .163.

His licence was immediately suspended, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $878.50.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences, exceeding the speed limit by 15-24km/hr and using an unregistered motor vehicle.
