A man has been charged after a car crashed into a fountain in Sydney's CBD this morning.
Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were called to Hyde Park south about 3am (Wednesday 3 June 2026), following reports a car had reversed into the fountain.
Police arrived on scene and found a rental SUV vehicle stuck on the outer edge of the Archibald Fountain.
They spoke with a 21-year-old man, who allegedly told them he was delivering a food order when the incident occurred.
Police have been told the man is a French National in Australia on a working visa.
He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital to be checked as a precaution and for mandatory testing.
He was subsequently taken to Day Street Police Station where he has now been charged with negligent driving, not reverse vehicle safely, and unlicensed driving.
The man has been granted conditional bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 15 July 2026.
The vehicle has been removed.
Police have been told the damage is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000.
