Driver Charged With High Range PCA in Lake Illawarra

A woman will face court next month charged with high range PCA following an incident in the State's Illawarra today.

About 2pm (Tuesday 8 September 2026), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were called to Fern Street, Gerringong, about 12km south of Kiama, following a report of a sedan driving in a concerning manner.

Police located the vehicle pulled over on Riverside Drive, Minnamurra

Officers conducted a roadside breath test on the driver, which allegedly returned a positive result.

Two children, aged two and four, found to be in the vehicle were uninjured.

The driver - a 32-year-old woman - was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where she allegedly returned a positive breath analysis of 0.220.

Police will allege while the woman was in custody, she has assaulted a senior constable while attempting to leave the area. The officer was uninjured.

The woman's licence was suspended, and she was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with high range PCA, drive recklessly or furiously or speed or manner dangerous, and assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm.

She is due to appear before Kiama Local Court on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
