A driver was allegedly caught 48km over the speed limit in the state's northern tablelands yesterday.
About 11.15am yesterday (Wednesday 14 May 2025), officers attached to Armidale Highway Patrol were conducting high visibility speed enforcement on Oban Street, Guyra, when a beige Mercedes was allegedly detected travelling 98km/h in a signposted 50km/h area.
The driver – a 31-year-old woman – was stopped and subjected to a roadside breath and drug test, allegedly returning a positive detection to methamphetamine and cannabis.
The woman was arrested for the purpose of a secondary oral fluid test, which will be sent for further analysis with further action dependant on the outcome once the secondary results are returned.
The woman was issued a future court attendance notice for never licensed person drive vehicle on road.
She was also issued with an infringement notice for class A motor vehicle exceed speed >45km.
The woman will appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 21 July 2025.
