The Victorian Government has announced a drought support package to help farmers across the state manage the ongoing impacts of dry seasonal conditions.
Many parts of Victoria, including Mitchell Shire, are experiencing significant rainfall deficiencies dating back to 2023.
The dry autumn has intensified challenges for local farms, particularly in relation to destocking, securing feed, and managing low water supplies.
A range of support services are now available to help farmers navigate this difficult period. This includes:
- Free one-on-one technical advice sessions with experienced farm advisors to develop tailored drought management plans
- Access to Agriculture Victoria's events, tools and resources, including workshops and field days focused on livestock, feed and water planning
- Mental health and wellbeing programs, including the Look Over the Farm Gate initiative to support community connection and resilience
- Free and confidential financial counselling through the Rural Financial Counselling Service, providing guidance on managing debt, negotiating with creditors and accessing assistance
These services are part of a coordinated support program delivered through Agriculture Victoria and its partners.
Mitchell Shire farmers are encouraged to explore the full range of support and register for services via the Agriculture Victoria website.
