Drug and alcohol seizure - Jabiru

Jabiru Police have seized a quantity of cannabis and alcohol bound for Maningrida, a liquor restricted area.

Around 2:00am on 14 December police were conducting traffic patrols from Jabiru to Darwin when they apprehended a vehicle on the Arnhem Highway, Northern Territory Police say.

Police conducted a search of the vehicle which located approximately 233 grams of cannabis, several hundred deals bags and approximately 4 litres of alcohol.

A 27-year-old female has been issued with a notice to appear at Maningrida Court on 5 February 2019.

Additionally police issued five liquor infringement notices to each of the vehicle occupants and a traffic infringement notice to the driver.

Earlier that morning, at 1:00am, police apprehended another vehicle on the Arnhem Highway.

The vehicle was searched and police located:

  • 3x 2 litre cask wine
  • 11x cans of beer
  • 2x litres of vodka
  • 1x 700ml vodka
  • 1x 500ml vodka
  • 1x litre of rum
  • 1x 700ml rum

All liquor was seized and destroyed. The vehicle was also unregistered and a defect notice was issued.

Acting Senior Sergeant David Young said police will continue to target those taking illicit substances into communities.

"Police routinely patrol all regions to ensure that harmful substances don’t impact our communities.

"If anyone has information on illicit substances being transported to communities you can phone police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers.
