Drug and firearm offences at Gold Coast

Police are investigating after replica firearms and drugs were located in a vehicle following a traffic crash at Main Beach this morning.

Around 1.15am today a Mazda 3 travelling south along the Gold Coast Highway attempted to turn left into Waterways Drive when collided with the medium strip travelling on the wrong side of the road before hitting a concrete wall and coming to a stop in the middle of Waterways Drive.

It will be alleged police attending the crash observed the driver to be affected by a substance. Due to this a search of the vehicle was conducted and police located a large quantity of restricted prescription drugs, cannabis, three gel blaster type firearms, a replica handgun and a handheld taser.

The 18-year-old male driver was apprehended at the scene.

Police investigations are ongoing.
