Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man with multiple offences following an early morning vehicle intercept at Hope Island on 3 May.
Around 5am, officers intercepted a white Nissan Navara on Hope Island Road for the purpose of a licence check.
Police will allege the driver was disqualified from driving at the time of the intercept and, during the interaction, officers detained him for the purpose of a drug search.
It will be further alleged that while police were conducting the search, the man obstructed officers before attempting to flee across Hope Island Road. He was subsequently arrested following a short foot chase.
During a subsequent search of the man, detectives allegedly located a quantity of methylamphetamine concealed inside his pants. Police also allegedly located drug utensils and a large quantity of cash during a search of the Nissan Navara.
A 32-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4, possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3 but less than Schedule 4, possessing dangerous drugs, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under the Drugs Misuse Act, driving while disqualified, possess utensils or pipes etc for use, and obstruct police officer.
He is due to reappear at the Southport Magistrates Court on 6 June.
