Drug driver clocked at 125 km/h, SA

A speeding car travelling at more than double the posted speed limit was pulled over a Burton yesterday afternoon, according to SA Police.

About 4.45pm on Tuesday 23 October, Northern Road Policing Response Team officers were conducting speed detection on Helps Road, Burton, when a black Holden Commodore sped towards them, allegedly travelling at 125 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

The driver, a 45-year-old Burton man, tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis. Police checks revealed his vehicle was also displaying incorrect registration plates, and his car was unregistered.

The driver was reported for drive at a dangerous speed, excessive speed, drive unregistered, with unassigned plates and drug driving. He will face court at a later date.

The drug sample was sent for forensic testing. The driver was also issued with a 24 hour driver direction notice and the car was impounded for 28 days.
