Drug trafficking charge after discovery of hydroponic cannabis setup, Noosaville

Noosa detectives yesterday, as part of an-ongoing drug operation code-named Operation Romeo Rhino, discovered an alleged large-scale and sophisticated cannabis production set-up which saw a 38-year-old man arrested and charged with drug trafficking.

Police executed four search warrants at addresses in Lysaght Street, Coolum Beach, Bellbird Drive, Peregian Springs, Straker Street, Cooroy and Leo Alley Drive, Noosaville.

It will be alleged at a Leo Alley Drive business police located a commercial cannabis production with officers discovering four shipping containers converted into grow rooms. Police seized approximately 27kgs of the illicit drug consisting of around 100 plants, as well as dried cannabis in cryovac bags. A number of exhibits were also seized including electrical appliances and lighting.

In total four people - three men and one woman were charged on 11 offences.

A 38-year-old Cooroy man was charged with drug trafficking, as well as two counts of producing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possess dangerous drugs and possess anything used in the connection of a drug offence.

A 27-year-old Coolum Beach man was charged with two counts of producing dangerous drugs and one count each of possession of dangerous drugs and possess drug utensil.

A 25-year-old Eumundi woman was charged with producing dangerous drugs.

All three are due in the Noosa Magistrates Court on June 1.

A third man, a 36-year-old from Noosaville was charged with possession of a dangerous drug and was drug diverted.
