DTU Holds Firm in Global University Rankings

Technical University of Denmark

Two international university rankings have just been published.

In the QS World University Rankings 2027, DTU is ranked 105th out of more than 1,500 universities worldwide, thereby maintaining its strong international standing. In a geographical comparison, the rankings place DTU second in Denmark, fifth in the Nordic region and 40th amongst the highest-ranked universities in Europe.

In the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings 2026, which evaluates 2,250 universities worldwide, DTU is ranked 189th globally. Although the ranking is slightly lower than last year, DTU maintains its position among the world's leading technical universities. At the same time, the university has moved up to 9th place in the Nordic region and retains its strong ranking as number 64 in Europe.

"It is a strong recognition of DTU's researchers, students, and staff that we continue to rank among the world's leading technical universities. We must use this position to generate even more knowledge and technology that makes a difference for society," says Provost Christine Nellemann.

Focus on Reputation and Research

The QS World University Rankings assess, among other things, universities' academic reputation, international profile, and graduates' career prospects after completing their studies. DTU receives top marks for the number of international researchers and ranks 56th globally on this indicator.

The U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, on the other hand, place a stronger emphasis on research impact and evaluate universities based on factors such as research output, citations, and international collaborations. Here, DTU has particularly strengthened its position in terms of global research reputation.

"DTU's role as one of Europe's leading technical universities is not just about rankings, but about the responsibility that comes with it. We must continue to develop research and technology that can help solve society's major challenges in areas such as energy, climate, and biotechnology," says Christine Nellemann.
