DTU Joins MOVEO Project Launch in Málaga for EU Mobility

Technical University of Denmark

With growing urban populations and a surge in shipping demands, today's transport infrastructure faces unprecedented pressure. The MOVEO project - funded under the Horizon Europe programme - aims to tackle these challenges by creating smart, integrated solutions for logistics and passenger flows, moving Europe closer to truly door-to-door mobility.

Towards Intelligent, Adaptive Traffic Flow

MOVEO brings together an interdisciplinary consortium of experts in transport engineering, data science, and infrastructure management. Together, they will develop and test cutting-edge tools, including Digital Twins, to model, optimize, and ultimately improve traffic flow across roadways, rail lines, inland waterways, and port systems.

At the core of the project are five real-world demonstrators, carefully selected to represent a range of infrastructure types, climate conditions, and stages of their life cycle. These sites will serve as living laboratories where MOVEO's innovations will be deployed, validated, and refined. The insights gained will inform scalable solutions for traffic management across Europe and beyond.

DTU Focuses on Digital Inclusion

"As Work Package lead for digital inclusion in transportation mobility we will contribute with grounded, qualitative data to reflect and model representations of voices and situations that tend to be excluded in planning. The project is a fantastic research opportunity to develop digital tools and methodologies for Human-Centred Engineering" says Professor Brit Ross Winthereik, who is leading DTU's involvement in the project.

DTU's contribution to MOVEO builds on the university's wider mission to deliver sustainable, technology-driven solutions to societal challenges. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, digitalisation, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, DTU continues to engage in European research efforts that aim to make transport systems more intelligent, inclusive, and resilient.
