Duo plucked from sticky situation

Two men who became stuck in muddy marshlands east of Mallacoota were rescued by the Victoria Police Air Wing last night.

The pair were conducting field surveys of birdlife in the area surrounding Lake Barracouta when they came across boggy ground and extremely thick foliage about 7pm.

After battling through the thick scrub for several hours, they became exhausted and ran out of water.

They activated their personal locator beacon, sending out a call for help to emergency services.

The police helicopter successfully located the men and they were winched to safety.

The pair, a 50-year-old from Montmorency and 34-year-old from Doncaster East, were both tired but uninjured.
