Durham Global Environmental Law Lecture Series.

Starting in October 2022, Justice Preston and Professor Petra Minnerop will be presenting the Durham Global Environmental Law Lecture Series, organised within the Centre for Sustainable Development Law and Policy (CSDLP). Hear from Justice Preston below.

The CSDLP's mission is to support the achievement of sustainable development in all its dimensions: environmental, economic and social.

In the series of eleven lectures, leading justices from the highest courts around the world will offer insights from their judicial practice on the application of international environmental law. This will provide the audience with a variety of perspectives, and it will offer the opportunity to learn from the experience in different jurisdictions.

The aim of the series is to:

  • explore issues that are addressed in global declarations and agreements
  • understand the developments that have taken place since these instruments were adopted
  • and to examine the role they have played in judicial decision-making around the world.

Justice Preston has lectured in post-graduate environmental law for over 30 years. He has published extensively on environmental law, including Australia's first book on environmental litigation and many articles, book chapters and reviews on environmental law, administrative and criminal law.
