Durham to Host Inter-University Musical Theatre Festival 2024

Durham University Musical Theatre Troupe were crowned the winners of the Inter-University Musical Theatre Festival (IUMTF). The festival was held at the Warwick Arts Centre on Saturday 20 May 2023 and following the victory, Durham will host next year's competition.

Established in 2019, the IUMTF takes place each year to celebrate all things musical theatre. Musical Theatre Troupe, part of Music Durham competed against Hull, York, Buckinghamshire, Southampton, and Warwick universities.

Their set included 'Mad Hatter' from 'Wonderland' by Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy soloist, Samuel Kingsley Jones (Law, Collingwood College); 'Unlikely Lovers' from 'Falsettos' by William Finn which won the award for 'best small group performance' and '38 Planes' from 'Come From Away' by Irene Stankoff and David Hein.

Music at Durham

With over 80 student members, you don't have to be a Music student to join. Music Durham is the overarching society for our main ensembles who coordinate the activities of the student-run and student-led societies. Our music societies span a wide range of styles and ability from auditioned to unauditioned, classical to jazz, opera to barbershop, orchestral to a cappella so there is something for everyone!
