Earth Hour 2026: Bayside

Originating in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is a global sustainability movement organised by the World Wildlife Fund.

It is held annually on the last or penultimate Saturday of March, encouraging all who participate to switch off non-essential lights for one hour from 8:30 - 9:30pm.

In 2026, it will mark 20 years of Earth Hour.

Bayside Council will be turning off non-essential lighting across several Council buildings, including Town Halls and the Rockdale Administration Building.

Individuals, communities and businesses wanting to support Earth Hour can participate by switching off lights and equipment at work where possible, participating at home, encouraging family members to do the same, and taking a moment to reflect on the small actions that can reduce energy use.
