East Coast communities waiting for Ferguson's reopening timeline today

  • Minister needs to keep his commitment to provide Tasman Highway update today
  • Communities require assurance on progress of works
  • Minister needs to tell Tasmanians how long road will be closed
  • Infrastructure and Transport Minister Michael Ferguson must keep his commitment and tell East Coast communities today when the Tasman Highway will reopen.

Acting Labor Leader Anita Dow said it was critical residents be given an honest picture of how long road works would take on the highway near Orford and when the road would again be accessible.

"Residents have been left confused and without up-to-date information about when traffic will again be able to flow to their communities," Ms Dow said.

"Labor supports these necessary works to keep members of the community safe but these communities need accurate information about the timing of these works so they can plan for the immediate future.

"Residents are extremely concerned about their businesses, about accessing the highway to travel for school or medical care and about how long their daily lives will be interrupted.

"Earlier this week Michael Ferguson gave an undertaking to provide an updated timeline by today and we look forward to him releasing that information."
