We recently had independent engineers inspect the staircase as part of planning for its future restoration.
The staircase was built in 1929 and is now almost 100 years old. Like many structures of this age, some parts of the original concrete are showing signs of deterioration, even with regular maintenance over the years.
The inspections found problems with some of the concrete pillars that support the lights and handrails. We're fencing off those areas as a precaution while engineers continue their work and we look at the next steps.
