Echo Taskforce arrest in connection with Dallas drive-by

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce have arrested a man as part of their ongoing investigation into a drive by shooting and subsequent suspicious car fire in October last year.

Yesterday morning detectives executed a search warrant and arrested a man at a Wollert residence.

The 20-year-old was interviewed by police in relation to a car fire in Thomastown before being released pending further enquiries.

A number of electronic devices as well as weapons, including knuckle dusters, were seized during the search.

The investigation follows an incident where three men were outside an address on Washington Street, Dallas about 7pm on 27 October 2020.

A stolen black Mitsubishi ASX approached the group and an unknown male passenger discharged a firearm at the men before the vehicle fled at a fast rate of speed.

No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

Police located the Mitsubishi after it was set alight in Thomastown East Reserve later that evening.

Investigators previously released dashcam footage of the incident in the hope that any witnesses who were in the area might come forward.

Anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed or have dashcam footage of a black Mitsubishi ASX driving erratically is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The investigation remains ongoing, anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log into www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
