Eclipse Toowoomba - LUNA Light Journey

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has reaffirmed its support for the inaugural Eclipse Toowoomba - a LUNA Light Journey.

After approving a sponsorship request earlier this year for the 2023 event, TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O'Shea said the organisers, LASERVISION, had put forward new dates over the Easter holiday period in 2024.

"This is a great result for our community," Cr O'Shea said.

"Council was excited about the benefits for the community under the original proposal which forecast around $3.45 million into the local economy.

"The updated timeline will see the event take place over a 23-day period incorporating the school holidays, in a less cool period of the year which will likely see an increase in visitor numbers and money being injected into our local businesses.

"While this event has successfully been held in other locations in Queensland, this will be the first time it's come to our Region and promises to be an event for the entire family."

As part of the sponsorship, Council has committed $41,359, which is made up from the waiver of park usage fees, the electricity meter reading fee and an application lodgement fee associated with conducting Eclipse Toowoomba - a LUNA Light Journey installation at Queens Park Botanic Gardens.

Eclipse Toowoomba - a LUNA Light Journey will be an experience not to be missed and is scheduled to be open to the public from Friday 22 March to Saturday 13 April 2024.
