Annual list identifies the most cited researchers across the globe
Global insights and analytics firm Clarivate has released the Highly Cited Researchers 2022 list, which this year includes eight University of Wollongong (UOW) scholars.
Distinguished Professor Shi Xue Dou appeared on the list twice, in the fields of Chemistry and Materials Science.
Five of the researchers on the list - Professor Dou, Distinguished Professor Shujun Zhang, Associate Dean Jun Chen, Distinguished Professor Hua Kun Liu, Distinguished Professor Yoshio Bando -are affiliated with the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials (AIIM) at UOW Innovation Campus.
AIIM is a purpose built facility to help transform multi-functional materials research into commercial reality and bridge the gaps between breakthroughs, prototyping and commercialisation.
Yang-Kook Sun was this year made an Honorary Distinguished Professor at UOW, cementing the relationship between AIIM and Department of Energy Engineering at South Korea's Hanyang University.
Associate Professor Shahriar Akter from the Faculty of Business and Law and Senior Professor Anthony Okley, in the School of Health and Society were also named on the list of the top 1 per cent of researchers by citations for field and publication year.
UOW Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor David Currow commended the academics for their exceptional efforts and for being acknowledged among the top highly cited researchers internationally.

"The list confirms UOW's place as a world-leading research institution where coordinated efforts lead to real world outcomes."

The names on the list are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1 per cent by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science™ citation index, and the list identifies the research institutions and countries where they are based.
The methodology that determines the "who's who" of influential researchers draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information™ at Clarivate.
