Election campaign on social media

LMU München

How are the parties and their leading candidates in the upcoming election mobilizing their supporters on social media? What are the central issues? Are negative campaigning and misinformation playing a role? How are the parties using Facebook and Instagram to personalize and portray political issues? - These are among the questions that the project "Analysis of the 2021 Election on Social Media" (#SoMeWa21) seeks to answer. As the campaign enters its final phase, the team will publish their findings in weekly blog posts.

The project forms part of the research program being carried out by the Junior Research Group on Digital Democratic Mobilization in Hybrid Media Systems (DigiDeMo). Its members are Dr. Jörg Hassler, Katharina Schlosser and Anna-Katharina Wurst (Department of Media and Communication, LMU) and Simon Kruschinski (Mainz University).
