The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) Strathfield Unit has welcomed the delivery of a $250,000 Medium Storm Vehicle to support storm and flood response.
Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience and Minister for Flood Recovery Steph Cooke visited the Unit today to officially hand over the keys to volunteers.
"After widespread flooding and persistent storm activity over the past 12 months, this new truck will boost the capacity of the Strathfield SES Unit to respond to incidents and keep the community safe during weather events," Ms Cooke said.
"Whether it's responding to complex storm jobs involving trees and roofs or in-water flood rescue, the Medium Storm Vehicle is equipped with the very latest tools and technology our volunteers need to do their vital and often life-saving work."
The Medium Storm Vehicle is funded through the NSW Government's $116 million SES Fleet Replacement Program.
NSW SES Acting Commissioner Damien Johnston said the new asset will provide additional capability for volunteers.
"Our volunteers safeguard the community during major storm and flood events, and this investment will increase our volunteers' responsiveness when the next weather event strikes," Acting Commissioner Johnston said.
NSW SES Strathfield Unit Commander Joanne Gianotto said the Medium Storm Vehicle will be invaluable.
"Over the past three years, our volunteers have responded to 333 incident calls - that's the equivalent of going out into the community once every three days to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents. This new asset will boost the way we can serve the community," Ms Gianotto said.
