The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for the future of Glenden, with a Registration of Interest now open for those interested in purchasing land and investing in the central Queensland town.
As the first stage of the market process, the Registration of Interest invites potential purchasers to identify their interest in available land parcels and outline proposed use of the land to shape future investment opportunities in the town.
It comes after the Crisafulli Government today introduced the Mineral Resources and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026 to repeal legislation introduced by the former Labor Government forcing QCoal's Byerwen Coal Mine to relocate 100 per cent of its workforce to Glenden.
The rushed changes by the former Labor Government failed to consider or address practical implications of workforce health and safety and fatigue management, or basic requirements such as the availability of services like water supply and critical infrastructure.
Instead, the Crisafulli Government will open up investment opportunities to others, providing a pathway forward for Glenden.
Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last said the Government had undertaken extensive planning and infrastructure assessment work to find a practical path forward for Glenden.
"Unlike the former Labor Government, we have taken the time to deliver a plan that offers a viable pathway forward for Glenden," Minister Last said.
"Today I introduced legislation to Parliament that will repeal the requirement for all QCoal workers to live in the town.
"The Registration of Interest process invites potential purchasers to put forward proposals that can help drive investment, create economic opportunities and contribute to the town's long-term future.
"This is a win for the community and a win against Labor's laws which restricted opportunities for the future of Glenden, without consideration to the implications.
"Unlike the former Labor Government who played political games with the future of the town, we want to see what is practical and possible to deliver certainty for residents."
