Emergency Road Repair & Disaster Recovery Budget Shift

Edward River Council has approved a budget variation to ensure essential road and infrastructure repairs can proceed.

These works are largely supported by State Government grants, allowing Council to deliver critical projects without significant impact on local services.

The variation includes funding for the final stage of emergency road repairs and natural disaster recovery, with most costs covered by external funding.

Council's contribution is modest compared to the overall investment, which totals $2.37 million for road repairs and $1.1 million for disaster recovery.

While Council's financial position remains solid, these adjustments will reduce cash reserves which may have a flow-on effect.

This is a standard part of managing major projects, and Council is taking proactive steps to maintain long-term financial sustainability.

A review of priorities will be presented early in 2026 to ensure we remain on a responsible path.

Mayor of Edward River Council, Ashley Hall, said:

"These works are essential for community safety and resilience, and it is vital that they progress. Council is committed to managing our finances responsibly, and we'll continue planning ahead to make sure we remain strong and sustainable into the future."
