Empower's demand for emergency food support doubled in one week.

Non resident Australians at risk of hunger.

"As a response to the Covid-19 lock downs, job losses and social distancing restrictions Empower has experienced a significant increase in demand for our community support," said Pastor Neil Smith, Pastor Planetshakers Church and Chairman Empower Community Services.

"In response to Covid-19 we launched a 'Food Relief Recover' programme and have increased our emergency food relief distribution to four locations across Melbourne and expanded on our city location.

"On Sunday alone we supplied food for 967 households or 3052 meals.

"We have noticed the greatest demand has been from non Australian residents who have lost their income and are not receiving Australian Government support and cannot return to their country of origin.

"Empower is seeking food donations and any support available," Pastor Smith concluded.

Empower have recently employed Dr Nadine Reid as CEO, a medical GP, to oversee all Empowers' services in a safe and appropriately regulated way, especially in line with Government mandated Covid-19 requirements.
