Budding performers, stage techs and promoters can hone their creative and event management skills thanks to Colac Otway Shire Council and Victoria's Youth Fest.

Council is offering two exciting workshops in the September school holidays to give young people aged 12 to 25 the skills they need to create, stage and promote events.

Then they'll put their new skills to use, planning and hosting the 2025 Colac Otway Youth Music Showcase in October.

Council's Manager Community Services, Ashish Sitoula said the program celebrated what makes young people awesome – creativity, energy, and fresh ideas.

"These workshops are your backstage pass to making something amazing," Ashish said.

"You don't need to be a pro – just bring your ideas and energy. Whether you're into music, lights, cameras or content, this is your chance to create something spectacular."

The Youth Backstage Tech Workshop and Rockout Session at COPACC on Monday 22 September is for young musicians, vocalists and people interested in event management or sound and lighting design.

COPACC staff will share the fundamentals of lighting, sound, equipment and staging, and experienced musicians will mentor young performers.

"These workshops demonstrate Council's commitment to youth inclusion and participation in civic and cultural life, giving them tools to succeed in life," Ashish said.

"By investing in young people's creativity and skills, we're building a vibrant, resilient local community," he said.

Youth Fest will include more than 110 events across the state in September, celebrating young Victorians with fun, creative and inclusive events designed and led by young people.

This program is supported by the Victorian Government, Colac Otway Shire Council and COPACC.
