- Lower power prices under the Crisafulli Government's Energy Roadmap Price Drop will kick in from tomorrow, delivering savings of around 7 per cent for households and 8 per cent for businesses in regional Queensland.
- The Crisafulli Government is passing on the savings to Ergon customers in full and is calling on other energy retailers to do the same.
- The Queensland competition watchdog has been tasked with tracking South East Queensland's energy retailers' pricing, to prevent price gouging.
- The Crisafulli Government's Energy Roadmap is delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for Queenslanders, after Labor's decade of decline.
Regional Queenslanders are to benefit from lower power prices from tomorrow (1 July) as wholesale power prices drop thanks to the Crisafulli Government's Energy Roadmap Price Drop.
From 1 July, Ergon customers will benefit from the price drops being passed on by the Crisafulli Government in full, with savings of around 7 per cent for households and 8 per cent for small businesses across regional Queensland.
In South East Queensland, the decreases detailed in the Australian Energy Regulator's Default Market Offer are between 7.2 and 10.7 per cent for households and between 10.4 and 14 per cent for small businesses.
In contrast, in the first year after the former Labor Government released its Energy and Jobs plan, regional families were hit with jumps of 29 per cent.
The Crisafulli Government is calling on other energy retailers to pass on the savings to Queenslanders, and has asked the Queensland Competition Authority to track power prices, fees and retail behaviour and provide an independent report on whether deals are competitive.
The Queensland Competition Authority will provide a report back on the market outcomes by the end of July 2026, and, as part of ongoing market monitoring, will also provide a full report back on the 2025-26 financial year in December 2026.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its plan for affordable, reliable and renewable energy for Queenslanders by holding retailers to account to ensure they pass on power bill savings across Queensland.
Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetzki said from tomorrow, regional Queenslanders would be saving on power prices under the Energy Roadmap Price Drop.
"For the first time in a long time regional Queenslanders will have lower power prices," Treasurer Janetzki said.
"We've done our bit and now retailers across the rest of Queensland now must do theirs.
"For too long Queenslanders have been under pressure from rising power costs due to Labor's failures. It's only right if the cost of energy falls, bills should too. No if's or but's about it."
Treasurer Janetzki said the energy watchdog would be holding energy retailers accountable to passing on power price drops to all Queenslanders.
"Lower power prices should be more money in the pockets of Queenslanders, not lining the pockets of corporates," he said.
"Queenslanders deserve transparency, and if retailers are providing a fair deal on power bills.
"QCA's oversight will strengthen accountability across the market, giving South East Queenslanders the assurance that retailers are being held to account and passing on savings."
