EnergyAustralia Unveils Yallourn Mine Rehab Plan

Community members can now have their say on the plans to rehabilitate one of the Latrobe Valley's coal mines that will help shape the region's landscape for decades to come.

EnergyAustralia has prepared a draft Declared Mine Rehabilitation Plan for its Yallourn site, which is now open for public consultation.

The plan's release for consultation is a major step towards formalising the intentions of the mine licensees, which can then be assessed under the state's resources, water and planning provisions.

The Latrobe Valley community is encouraged to review the proposed rehabilitation plan and have their say on how the restoration of the Yallourn mine site will be delivered. The public exhibition period is open for 60 days.

Ensuring the Latrobe Valley's coal mines are made safe and stable for the long term is critical to Gippsland's prosperity and the state' transition away from fossil fuels. The Latrobe Valley Regional Rehabilitation Strategy is guiding the transition of mining land along with the statutory decision-making processes in place.
