The esteemed North Queensland Ceramic Awards is celebrating its 45th iteration of the competition since its inception in 1973.
Artists can now apply to be part of this milestone exhibition at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in September this year, which will exhibit both local and national ceramicists' works.
Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said the competition was highly regarded across Australia.
"The North Queensland Ceramic Awards always draws in remarkable talent from across the country and even from abroad," Councillor Dametto said.
"This year's competition will include the $10,000 City of Townsville Art Collection Award as well as the $1,000 People's Choice Award, so there's good reason to get your entries in now.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for emerging artists to potentially exhibit next to established and career artists.
"I'd highly recommend anyone who's thinking about entering to jump onto Council's website to find out more information."
Ruby Yu-Lu Yeh won the 2024 City of Townsville Art Collection Award for her piece Of Motherhood. The artwork represented the societal expectations around women and motherhood and was created in Queensland.
At the time of winning, Ms Yeh said she was honoured to join the echelon of winners of the prestigious awards.
"I visited the North Queensland Potters Association last year, where I stayed in Townsville for six weeks making work and getting to know the community, and saw all the beautiful ceramic collections both at North Queensland Potters Association and Perc Tucker Regional Gallery," she says.
"I thought if I only applied for one prize this year, the North Queensland Ceramic Awards would be the one because of its long history and its reputation for attracting high-standard entries from across the country, as well as the focus on showcasing diverse ceramics in Australia."
Entries for the North Queensland Ceramic Awards are open until 5pm on Tuesday 7 July.
