Local projects that deliver positive and measurable environmental outcomes for Darwin can now secure funding through the latest round of City of Darwin's Environment and Climate Change Grants program.
Each year, $50,000 is available for innovative and sustainable local projects that contribute to achieving one or more actions within City of Darwin's 2030 Climate Emergency Strategy, Greening Darwin Strategy or Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the grant recipients would contribute to making Darwin a cool, clean and green city.
"We have three key strategies in place to enhance, preserve and protect the natural environment," Mr Vatskalis said.
"We strive to be an environmentally responsible city while also reducing the impacts of climate change, and the projects undertaken through these grants will help us achieve those goals.
"Through last year's grant round, we supported Landcare NT to deliver biodiversity education sessions across 10 Darwin schools, and we hope to see other similar activities made by possible through this program.
"We welcome applications from local community groups, not-for-profit organisations, research organisations and businesses undertaking projects that will deliver positive environmental outcomes for the community," he said.
The 2024-25 Environment and Climate Change Grants round is open until Friday 17 May 2024.
Applicants should refer to the City of Darwin Funding Guidelines when applying.
Funding for successful applicants will be available from 30 June 2024 and activities must be completed within 12 months of the grant being awarded.
All applications must be submitted via Smarty Grants.
