EOIs Open for Be Hear Now 2026 With New Music Partners

Expressions of interest are now open for the 2026 Be Hear Now contemporary music program, a tailored professional development initiative designed to nurture and elevate Ballarat's diverse music community.

Building on five years of success, the program provides local artists with the tools and guidance they need to refine their craft and build sustainable careers.

In 2026, Be Hear Now will continue to focus on identifying "the ones to watch" in the Ballarat music scene.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves said that Be Hear Now is a vital initiative for our local music community.

"Our artists have incredible talent, and programs like Be Hear Now help ensure their voices are heard far beyond Ballarat," she said.

"It's inspiring to see our local talent receive the guidance and resources they need to grow and share their music with the world."

The 2026 program is set to be even more impactful, with exciting new partnerships with the Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO) and Music Victoria.

The collaborations will enhance the program offering, including VMDO-led masterclasses and Music Victoria membership for all successful applicants.

Kirsty Rivers, General Manager of the Victorian Music Development Office said they're delighted to be able to support the transformative work of the Be Hear Now team.

"Making the most of your music industry career through mentoring and connecting is how the industry works," she said.

"The VMDO is proud to be able to help ensure music can continue to be heard and grow across the state and beyond."

Music Victoria CEO, Fiona Duncan said they're thrilled to partner with the City of Ballarat on Be Hear Now.

"Ballarat has always been a powerhouse of creativity, and initiatives like this give local artists the support they need to thrive," she said.

"Supporting regional music communities is core to who we are. When regional artists and industry workers are supported, the whole Victorian music ecosystem becomes stronger, more diverse and more sustainable.

"We can't wait to see what Ballarat's incredible music community creates through this program."

Following the EOI call-out, five local artists or bands will be selected to participate in a customised program that prepares them to record, mix, master, and release their own original singles.

Participants will receive five dedicated sessions with an industry-matched mentor as well as professional recording and production support, photography and design for promotional materials, release strategy development, and marketing and distribution assistance.

Professional development will also span areas including music business, branding, marketing and social media, live performance, tour planning, digital distribution, and playlist pitching.

They will also have access to desk space at Music Victoria's Collingwood office.

Applications for Be Hear Now 2026 close on Friday 30 January. To be considered, applicants must live, work or study within the City of Ballarat. Program activity will take place from approximately March to September 2026.
