There's still time for young people in our region to submit an expression of interest to represent our region in the 2023 YMCA Youth Parliament program.

The program is designed to give young Victorians a chance to be heard at the highest levels of State Government on a wide range of issues relevant to young peoples' lives.

As part of the program, six participants will receive training in public speaking and leadership at two residential camps in May this year as they research issues they're passionate about.

Training will include parliamentary etiquette and public speaking.

From this research, Youth Parliament team members will develop a Bill which they will then debate in the Victorian Parliament over three days in September this year.

Expressions of interest are open until Friday 20 January and can be made by visiting www.mildura.vic.gov.au/YouthParliament.

Mildura's Deputy Mayor Helen Healy encouraged local young people to consider submitting an expression of interest.

"This is a great program that provides a host of opportunities for young people in our region to develop leadership, social and resilience skills, as well as the unique opportunity to represent their region at the highest levels of State Government," Cr Healy said.

"Importantly, it's also an opportunity to make a real difference in our community, as previous Youth Parliament team members' Bills have formed the basis of enacted legislation."
