Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) will hold an online community conference to discuss an application to upgrade a sewage plant in Warrnambool.
EPA received an application from Wannon Water Region Water Corporation for a works approval to upgrade their sewage treatment plant (STP) in Elliot St, Warrnambool. The upgrade to the plant is needed to increase capacity to manage demand for sewage and wastewater treatment until 2040.
"Normally we hold a community meeting, a 20B, to give people a chance to discuss the matters that concern them about a project, to hear from the proponent and from EPA about the Works Approval process," said EPA's Manager Development Assessments Steve Adamthwaite.
"As we cannot hold a face to face conference under current circumstances, we are using an online forum to ensure people can have their say. The response to the format and the technology in the past has been positive, though of course, everyone's preference is to be available in person."
The purpose of the conference is:
• To enable the EPA to listen to and better understand the views and concerns of the community and stakeholders
• Help explain the works approval application, the assessment process and current status
• Discuss ideas about possible conditions if the works approval is issued
The conference will be independently chaired, and the chair will prepare a conference report, including recommendations to EPA Victoria for consideration in its assessment of the application.
The conference process will take place in two parts:
• an online forum which will be open for comment at https://engage.vic.gov.au/epa-works-approvals/wannon-water from 20 July to 30 July, and
• a live online event on the 5 August 7:00PM.
