After a rigorous executive search process, Joss Crawford has been appointed EPA's Chief Executive Officer.
Serving as Executive Director Operations since August 2024 and as Interim CEO since April 2025, Joss brings extensive leadership experience and a commitment to regulatory excellence and community engagement.
With strong knowledge and experience at EPA, Joss has previously held senior executive leadership roles across the petroleum, transport, and building and construction industries in Australia and internationally, bringing a deep understanding of duties-based legislation and regulatory standards.
Dr Jen Martin has been appointed Victoria's Chief Environmental Scientist.
A widely respected expert in environmental science, Dr Martin has been acting in the role since May 2025. She has more than 20 years' experience in contaminated land and human health risk assessment will play a pivotal role in advancing EPA's scientific capability.
Dr Martin's appointment followed an extensive executive search.
Speaking on behalf of the EPA Governing Board, Chair, Professor Kate Auty praised the leadership of both Ms Crawford and Dr Martin.
"Environmental regulation is complex and ever changing. We must be able to progress our regulatory approach, look to the science and evidence and take strong action to protect the environment and community," Professor Auty said.
"Both Ms Crawford and Dr Martin have the experience and expertise to take us through the next challenges. These appointments reinforce our focus on strong regulation, innovative science, and effective environmental protection for Victoria in line with our legislative responsibilities."
