Escape from lawful custody charge at Seisia, QLD

Police have charged a man with a number of offences following an incident at Seisia Wharf yesterday morning., Queensland Police say

It will be alleged that around 7.45am, officers and a restrained prisoner were waiting to board a ferry when the man forcefully broke free from the officer’s hold and escaped lawful custody.

The man ran a short distance before colliding with two men who were also waiting to board the ferry.

The man attempted to flee on foot again, but police apprehended the man without further incident.

A 32-year-old man sustained a suspected fractured leg and was transported to the Bamaga Hospital for treatment.

A 68-year-old man sustained minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.

A 25-year-old Injinoo man has been charged with one count each of escape lawful custody, obstruct police, assault occasioning bodily harm, and grievous bodily harm.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, June 12.
