As being one of the world's most vulnerable regions to climate risks, the Arab region faces mounting environmental challenges that compound existing pressures stemming from conflict, displacement, poverty, unemployment, and governance gaps. In response, ESCWA has released a new report entitled "Green, social, sustainability and sustainability-linked bonds in the Arab region: innovative instruments for strengthening local bond market depth".
The report examines how Arab countries can strengthen their local bond markets and attract greater domestic and international investment in green, social, sustainability, and sustainability-linked (GSSS) bonds.
It also presents key recommendations to support sustainable finance, deepen local capital markets, and help bridge the financing gap required to advance climate action and build more resilient and sustainable economies.
