Kingston Council is inviting landowners, residents, businesses and the wider community to provide feedback on proposed changes to planning controls for the city's Green Wedge.

The Green Wedge is a unique and important part of Kingston, providing valuable open space, environmental habitat and agricultural land, while maintaining a green break between urban areas.

The proposed changes aim to strengthen protections for this area, provide clearer guidance on appropriate development and help preserve its environmental, agricultural and landscape values into the future.

Following community consultation, Council adopted its 10-year Green Wedge Management Plan in 2023. The plan sets out a long-term approach to managing and protecting the area, with updated planning controls among its key recommendations.

Planning Scheme Amendment C220king proposes a range of changes to put these recommendations into effect.

These include updating zoning across existing Green Wedge land to help prevent land uses with negative environmental impacts, introducing new requirements and design guidelines for buildings and works, and updating local planning policies to guide decisions about appropriate land uses and signage.

The amendment also proposes updates to planning maps for the Chain of Parks (Sandbelt Parklands), including removing land already acquired for the project from the Public Acquisition Overlay. Changes to the zoning of parts of the Dingley and Mordialloc bypasses and Boundary Road are also proposed to reflect their role as transport corridors.

Importantly, the proposed changes will not alter the urban growth boundary or change existing subdivision rules for Green Wedge land.

Community feedback will help inform consideration of the proposed planning changes and the future management of this important part of our city.

Landowners, residents, businesses and anyone with an interest in Kingston's Green Wedge are encouraged to visit yourkingstonyoursay.com.au/C220 to review the amendment and have your say before Friday 27 November 2026.
