Strengthening Cultural Identity Through the UPHOLD Culture Program

ETC is proud to share highlights from the UPHOLD Culture program, delivered in partnership with Greg Inglis' Goanna Academy - an initiative centred on cultural identity, mental wellbeing and empowerment for First Nations customers.

Through this partnership, participants are supported to strengthen their connection to culture while gaining practical tools to support their social and emotional wellbeing. The program provides a culturally safe space for reflection, learning and growth - guided by lived experience, storytelling and community connection.

A program grounded in culture, connection and empowerment

Delivered by the Goanna Academy, the UPHOLD Culture program brings together cultural learning, mental health awareness and supportive yarning circles. Participants are encouraged to explore who they are, where they come from, and how cultural identity can be upheld alongside work, training and personal goals.

The program focuses on:

  • Strengthening cultural identity and pride
  • Supporting mental wellbeing and self-care
  • Building resilience and confidence
  • Creating safe spaces for open, respectful conversation

By placing culture at the centre, the program supports participants to feel seen, valued and empowered - both personally and professionally.

Stories of growth and positive outcomes

Throughout the program, participants demonstrated strong engagement and commitment, embracing opportunities to learn, share and support one another. Many took practical tools and insights forward into their everyday lives, strengthening both personal wellbeing and employment readiness.

Importantly, the program also contributed to positive employment outcomes, with many participants progressing into work and next?step opportunities as part of their broader journey with ETC.
