Beirut - Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor and Beirut Arab University's Human Rights Center signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement a programme aimed at developing university students' human rights capacities.
The programme, which is set to begin this month, will feature a series of lectures by international human rights experts on a variety of topics. These topics will include international human rights law, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and international strategic litigation.

The programme targets 40 students from both the university's Beirut and Tripoli campuses. The students will receive specialised training in mechanisms for documenting human rights violations, compiling human rights reports, and utilising the methods with concerned parties. In addition, the students will use such tools to promote human rights at the international level.
"The Memorandum of Understanding with Beirut Arab University is one of several that Euro-Med Monitor in Lebanon has started signing with relevant universities and institutions to raise awareness of the importance of implementing human rights principles and empower individuals to defend their and their communities' rights," said Mohammad Moghabat, Euro-Med Monitor's regional office director in Lebanon.
"By targeting university students, we hope to familiarise them with international mechanisms, teach them how they work, and direct interested students to major in related fields," Moghabat added.
The programme is part of Euro-Med Monitor's activities in the MENA region and Europe, aiming to strengthen individuals' human rights capacities and involve victims in the process of defending their rights.
