About 12.30am, police attempted to stop a red Holden Commodore sedan on Malaga Drive in Malaga. It will be alleged the driver accelerated away and continued to evade police for about 40 minutes through Malaga, Bennett Springs, Caversham, Beechboro, and Morley.
It is further alleged the driver drove recklessly, endangering other road users by reaching high speeds, driving on the incorrect side of the road, through red traffic lights and through roadworks, forcing motorists to take evasive action.
With the assistance of the Police Air Wing, officers tracked the vehicle towards Padbury, where it was eventually abandoned on McArthur Street where the driver allegedly fled on foot. He was apprehended a short distance away and taken into police custody without incident.
A 16-year-old male has been charged with:
• 1 x Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police
• 1 x Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (Circumstance of Aggravation)
• 1 x No Authority to Drive - Suspended (Other than Fines Suspension)
The vehicle has been impounded for 28 days.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before the Perth Children's Court on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
