Evade police charges at Gold Coast

Detectives have charged a 31-year-old man after he allegedly stole several vehicles and evaded police through the Gold Coast today.

The man allegedly stole a motorcycle at about 6am from Watson Esplanade at Surfers Paradise, placing it on the back of a hired ute.

It is also alleged that the man travelled to Clark Street, Biggera Waters and attempted to steal a jet ski. The vehicle became wedged between two concrete pylons and the man fled the address on the stolen motorcycle, abandoning the hired ute.

Police found a firearm and ammunition in the back of the vehicle while conducting a search.

While conducting routine patrols at Pimpama, police observed the man walking along the road at around midday. He attempted to evade police by entering a property on Creek Street where he allegedly stole another vehicle.

The vehicle was engaged in a short pursuit before Polair tracked the vehicle as it travelled to Helensvale.

Police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Discovery Drive and the man was arrested shortly after 12.30pm.
